Something is watching you. You have felt this. Everyone has — the certainty of being observed from a direction that cannot be named, in a room that was empty a moment ago. Most of us move through this feeling quickly. Turn on a light. Rationalise.

This workshop does not rationalise.

The eye appears everywhere in the oldest images we have — in temples, on hands, on the wings of angels so strange the prophets who saw them could not describe them without terror. In Ezekiel's vision the creatures that carry the throne of God are covered in eyes. All of them open. None of them blinking. Watching everything at once without rest.

But the eye does not only watch us. We are always watching too. The watcher and the watched are not as separate as we imagine.

In this workshop we sit with the eye as a watcher. We ask what it means to be watched, to watch. We follow the image through art, through mythology, through the uncanny corners of cinema and poetry where it keeps appearing uninvited.

Henri Michaux went inward and found a universe with its own geography, its own creatures, its own laws. He took mescaline to get there faster. He wrote what he found with the precision of a cartographer and the urgency of an exorcist.

His writing does something unusual. It makes the strange feel inevitable and the familiar feel suddenly, slightly wrong. The creatures that inhabit his interior are described with the seriousness of a field biologist. The mescaline experiments are reported with the precision of a scientist. And underneath all of it is the sense that he is trying to get something out of himself. Onto the page, out of his body, exorcised.

In this workshop we sit with that writing until the strangeness becomes familiar — and the familiar becomes strange. We ask what Michaux found in the space within, and what it opens in us.

There is no band. And yet we hear it.

No Hay Banda is a two hour Cabinet event on Mulholland Drive — the dreamer who cannot know they are dreaming, the trap that springs itself, and the knowledge that lives on the other side of silence.

We use the tools of depth psychology — symbol, shadow, the numinous — not to solve the film but to follow it further than it is usually followed. To dwell in the liminal, the psychological, the oneiric.

Nothing grows in isolation. The collective creation of meaning is where transformation happens. Bring what the film did to you. We will find out what it means together.
