THE UNSAYABLE

There are things that cannot be said directly. Not because they are vague or incomplete - because they are too precise for ordinary language to hold. They require a different kind of approach. Oblique. Patient. Willing to arrive by a route that cannot be planned in advance.

The Unsayable is a programme of courses for writers, artists, researchers and the genuinely curious who want to think and make in that territory. Not to master it but to inhabit it.

The courses run for four weeks. All are online. All are facilitated rather than taught - which means you will not be told what to think. You will be given the conditions in which thinking becomes possible.

The work draws on creative practice, depth psychology, poetic attention, philosophy and the imaginal as instruments to be used. You do not need an academic background. You need to have encountered something in your own practice or your own thinking that the available frameworks could not quite account for.

If you have felt that - you are already in the right place.

You will not be told what to think.

You will be given the conditions in which thinking becomes possible.

COURSES

Flea Markets of the Unconscious

Autumn 2026 · Online · 90 minutes · Four weeks

The Surrealists understood that the unconscious has a market. That it traffics in strange objects, impossible meetings, images that should mean nothing and mean everything. This four-week course uses the methods of the surrealists - automatic writing, chance, the found image - as serious instruments of inquiry. We find out what our own unconscious has been stockpiling without our permission.

What the Imagination Knows

Autumn 2026 · Sundays from 13 September · The Study ND

Poetry is not only a form of self-expression. It is a form of knowing - a way of reaching truths that argument and analysis cannot quite hold. Over four weeks we read poems slowly and strangely, asking not what they mean but what they know. No poetry background required. Only the willingness to linger.

The Poem That Reads You

Spring 2027 · Online · 90 minutes · Four weeks

You did not choose it. It chose you. A line from a poem that has never left - surfacing at 3am, at a funeral, in the middle of an argument. It knows something about you that you have never quite been able to say. Over four weeks we follow what the poems we love reveal about what we carry. Bring the lines you cannot explain. Through a psychoanalytic lens, we read not to analyse but to encounter.

What the Cards Do Not Say

Summer 2027 · Online · 90 minutes · Four weeks

The tarot is layered with accumulated meaning - occult, psychological, archetypal. All of it useful. All of it, eventually, a buffer between you and the raw encounter with the image. This course removes the buffer. We use the cards as generators and provocations, developing the capacity to stay in the not-yet-known long enough for something genuinely unexpected to emerge.
